Los Angeles County Sues Roblox Over Child Safety Concerns
Los Angeles County has filed a lawsuit against Roblox, alleging the gaming platform failed to adequately protect children from predatory behavior and inappropriate content. The suit, announced Thursday, February 19, 2026, claims Roblox’s moderation practices and age-verification systems are insufficient, exposing young users to risks of grooming and exploitation.
Allegations Against Roblox
The lawsuit asserts that Roblox has created a dangerous environment for children by failing to effectively moderate user-generated content, enforce age restrictions, and disclose the extent of inappropriate material and potential risks posed by sexual predators [1]. Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chair Hilda Solis stated the lawsuit aims to protect children from online predators and inappropriate content, emphasizing Roblox’s responsibility to ensure a safe platform [1].
County lawyer Dawyn R. Harrison described the platform as providing “pedophiles powerful tools to prey on innocent and unsuspecting children,” highlighting the potential for severe trauma resulting from grooming, exploitation, and assault [1].
Roblox’s Response
Roblox has rejected the allegations, maintaining that safety is “at its core.” The company states it has implemented advanced safeguards to monitor the platform for harmful content and communications, and that users cannot send or receive images via chat, a feature intended to mitigate misuse [1]. Roblox also asserts it takes swift action against rule violations and collaborates with law enforcement.
“There is no finish line when it comes to protecting kids, and while no system can be perfect, our commitment to safety never ends,” a Roblox spokesperson said [1].
