Role Overview

As Software Engineering Manager, reporting to the Director of Software Engineering, you will be responsible for leading and developing a team to meet technical, program, and business objectives. This role requires collaboration across disciplines, including functional managers and program management, to ensure successful project delivery aligned with strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Team Leadership & Development: Lead and develop a Software Engineering team, setting clear goals, managing performance reviews, compensation planning, and career development. Foster a culture of continuous learning through mentoring and growth opportunities. Recruit and assign engineers to projects and plan for long-term staffing needs.
• Project & Resource Management: Ensure accountability for accurate cost and schedule targets and the execution of technical effort. Align team efforts with program schedules, budgets, and deliverables. Provide accurate cost and schedule estimates for proposals and programs. Track progress and adjust resources to meet milestones. Support contract negotiations and program planning.
• Technical Leadership: Provide technical oversight and program support for the Software Engineering discipline. Drive technical strategy and contribute to software architecture and design. Collaborate with Systems, Firmware, Hardware, and Test Engineering for cohesive design and requirements validation. Assess technical risks and implement mitigation strategies. Support technology road maps and innovation planning.
• Process & Quality Improvement: Champion quality and continuous improvement of technical processes. Promote best practices in software development and ensure adherence to quality standards and metrics. Maintain modern toolsets and efficient team workflows.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $165,700 – $223,800. The final offer will consider factors including role responsibilities, location, market conditions, candidate experience, skills, and education.

Skills and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
• 15+ years of experience in software engineering, with 5+ years in a leadership role.
• Deep expertise in software development, particularly object-oriented design, UML, and embedded systems.
• Proficiency in C/C++, Java, and tools like VS Code, DOORS, Git, SVN, and PTC Integrity Modeler.
• Experience with multiple development methodologies, including Agile, Waterfall, and Spiral.
• Proven ability to build, motivate, and lead engineering teams.
• Strategic thinking with the ability to plan resources, budgets, and timelines effectively.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
