The remnants of Storm Éowyn continue to disrupt daily life in the Northern Sound region, with thousands still grappling with power and water outages.
ESB Networks reports that approximately 40,000 homes and businesses across Cavan and Monaghan remain without electricity. This figure represents a decrease from the 55,000 customers affected at the peak of the storm on Friday morning.
Cavan Faces Worst Impacts
County Cavan has been hit hardest by the power outages, with nearly 9,000 reported by ESB. The Virginia and Cavan Town areas are particularly affected, with a combined 6,000 outages
Monaghan Residents Still Waiting for Restored Power
While fewer customers are impacted in County Monaghan, a total of 4,320 residents are still without electricity. ESB estimates that power will be restored to most in Monaghan by the end of January.

Local councillors have expressed concern about the ongoing disruption caused by Storm Éowyn.
Cllr Aine Smith, representing the wider Cavan Town and West Cavan area, stated that the region has been significantly impacted by the storm.
Mullagh Councillor Shane P O’Reilly echoed this sentiment, noting that the situation remains dire in east Cavan.
