Utah Man Arrested with 100 Pounds of Methamphetamine
Washington City, Utah – A 50-year-old man, Reyes Rojo Burgos, was arrested on Friday, February 20, 2026, after authorities discovered 100 pounds of methamphetamine in his vehicle during a traffic stop in Southern Utah. Burgos is facing charges related to possession and intent to distribute a controlled substance.
Details of the Arrest
The Washington City Police Department initiated the traffic stop shortly before 2 a.m. After observing Burgos failing to come to a complete stop at a stop sign. During the stop, a detective from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office requested to search the vehicle. Burgos consented to the search.
According to an affidavit, the search revealed several large cardboard boxes concealed under plastic wrap, a packaging method commonly associated with narcotics. Upon opening the boxes, officers found 100 gallon-sized plastic bags, each containing a white, crystal-like substance identified as methamphetamine.
Suspect’s Statement and Motive
Burgos reportedly told officers he was transporting the drugs to pay off a debt owed in Mexico, with the promise of receiving $5,000 upon successful delivery.
Ongoing Investigation and Charges
Burgos was booked into the Purgatory Correctional Facility on suspicion of second-degree felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. KUTV reports that Homeland Security Investigations, along with police departments from Hurricane City, Santa Clara-Ivins and St. George, are also involved in the investigation.
