Snowfall to Cease Across Bulgaria, Sunny Weather Expected After Noon
Most of Bulgaria will see a halt to snowfall by noon on Tuesday, February 23, 2026, with sunny weather prevailing in the afternoon, according to the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH).
Current Conditions and Forecast
During the night of February 22nd, snowfall will continue, particularly in the far southeastern regions where it may transition to rain before changing back to snow. The precipitation is expected to cease from the southwest and stop completely across the country by noon on Tuesday.
Following the cessation of snowfall, clouds will break and decrease from the west, giving way to sunny conditions over most of the country in the afternoon. A moderate west-northwest wind will blow, shifting to a northwest direction in Eastern Bulgaria.
Temperature Outlook
Minimum temperatures will range between -6°C and -1°C. Maximum temperatures will be between 2°C and 7°C, with lower temperatures expected in the northeastern regions. In Sofia, the minimum temperature will be around -3°C and the maximum around 5°C.
Mountain Conditions
Cloudy conditions with snow showers are expected in the mountains, but these will gradually stop, and the clouds will break. A moderate north-northwest wind will prevail, with continued conditions for blizzards and strong winds along mountain passes. The maximum temperature at 1200 meters will be around 0°C, and at 2000 meters, around -5°C.
Black Sea Coast Forecast
Significant cloudiness and occasional snowfall are expected along the Black Sea coast until noon. After midday, the precipitation will stop, and the clouds will decrease. A moderate north-northwest wind will blow, and maximum temperatures will be between 5°C and 7°C. The sea water temperature is currently 5°-6°C, with sea conditions ranging from 3-4 points.
