Al Khaldiya Secure Vital Victory in Bahraini Premier League Title Race

Manama, Bahrain – Al Khaldiya delivered a significant win in the Nasser Bin Hamad Premier League, defeating Al Malkiya 2–1 last night at Khalifa Sports City. This result firmly positions them in the title conversation, avenging their 3–1 loss to Al Malkiya in the reverse fixture last October.

Chabbi’s Side Take the Lead

Under the guidance of Tunisian head coach Lassad Al Chabbi, Al Khaldiya took an early lead in the 15th minute. Moroccan winger Nizar El Otmani delivered a precise cross to the far post, where Congolese striker Joel Beya headed the ball past goalkeeper Godwill Chia Ndang.

Al Malkiya Respond with Equalizer

Al Khaldiya’s initial intensity waned after scoring, allowing Al Malkiya to gain momentum. The equalizer came in the 35th minute from a set piece. Ahmed Muslim headed a free-kick into a dangerous area, leading to a scramble in the box before Nigerian midfielder Cyril Olisima slotted the ball past Portuguese goalkeeper Ricardo Silva.

Dramatic Late Winner Secures Victory

The second half saw Al Khaldiya push for a winning goal. Moroccan midfielder Saifeddine Bouhra created an opportunity for Anas Ouahim, but his shot was saved by Ndang. Ayman Dirani, on loan from Wydad Athletic Club, also came close but couldn’t connect cleanly.

The decisive moment arrived in the 88th minute. Bouhra’s cross from the left was fumbled by Ndang under pressure, allowing Brazilian forward Gleison Moreira to score with a controlled volley.

In the closing moments, Al Malkiya appealed for a penalty for a handball by Dirani, but the appeal was denied after a VAR review.

League Standings

With this win, Al Khaldiya moves to 36 points, tying with Muharraq and establishing a three-point lead over Riffa. Chabbi’s side currently tops the league table on head-to-head record. Al Malkiya remains fourth with 24 points.
