Okinawa Hosts Spring Baseball Training and Early Season Games
Okinawa Prefecture is once again a hub for Japanese professional baseball as teams arrive for spring training and early-season exhibition games. The warm climate makes it an ideal location for teams to prepare for the upcoming season, attracting both players and fans alike.
Spring Training Camps in Full Swing
Several Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) teams are currently holding their spring training camps in Okinawa. This year’s training season coincides with the early bloom of cherry blossoms, adding to the appeal for fans and media.
Yomiuri Giants
The Yomiuri Giants are training in Okinawa from February 15th to 25th, with a day off on February 19th. They are utilizing Onoyama Sogo Undojo and Okinawa Cellular Stadium Naha, located near Naha Military Port (N 26.203384, E 127.673039). Practice games were scheduled on February 16th and 18th at Okinawa Cellular Stadium Naha, with preseason games on February 22nd in Ginowan, and February 23rd and 24th at Okinawa Cellular Stadium Naha. The Hanshin Tigers are also conducting spring training in Okinawa, typically at Ginoza-son Yakyujo near Camp Hansen and Camp Schwab (N 26.483346, E 127.974811), and Uruma-shi Gushikawa Yakyujo near Camp Courtney (N 26.359484, E 127.865471). The Yokohama DeNA Baystars are training in Okinawa from February 1st to 24th, with days off on February 5th, 10th, 14th, and 19th. They are based at Union Desukara Stadium Ginowan near Camp Foster and MCAS Futenma (N 26.282342, E 127.737392). Practice games are scheduled in Chatan on February 11th, Yomitan on February 12th, Ginowan (Union Desukara Stadium Ginowan) on February 8th, 13th, 15th, 20th, Naha on February 18th, and Ginoza on February 24th. In addition to training, several exhibition games are being played in Okinawa. On February 23rd, Nippon Ham Fighters will face the Rakuten Eagles at Tapic Stadium Nago at 13:00, while the Yomiuri Giants will play against the Hiroshima Carp at Cellular Stadium Naha, also at 13:00. Chunichi Dragons will compete against the Hanshin Tigers at Agre Stadium Chatan, and Yakult Swallows will play Yokohama DeNA Baystars at ANA Ball Park Urasoe, both at 13:00. Source
