For years, the Tesla Semi and its associated Megacharger network have been exclusive to North America. Now, Tesla is laying the groundwork for expansion into Europe, with plans to support the electric truck and potentially other commercial fleets. The move signals a significant step towards electrifying freight transport across the continent.
The Munich Connection and Commercial Focus
The impetus for this expansion comes from a new leadership position posted on LinkedIn by David Forer, Sr. Project Developer for Charging at Tesla . Tesla is seeking a Business Development Commercial Charging leader based in Munich, Germany. This role will focus on securing commercial deals for Tesla’s entire charging product range, including both traditional Supercharging and the high-powered Megacharging system designed for the Tesla Semi .
Megacharging and the Tesla Semi
Megachargers utilize the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) 3.2 standard, capable of delivering up to 1.2MW of power to the Tesla Semi . This high-power charging infrastructure is crucial for the Semi’s operation and will be essential as Tesla prepares to meet European homologation requirements. A potential launch for the Class 8 electric truck in the European market is anticipated in 2026 , potentially coinciding with existing commercial contracts, such as with DHL .
Beyond the Semi: A Broader European Electrification Trend
Europe’s commercial trucking industry is undergoing rapid electrification, with established manufacturers like Mercedes, Volvo and MAN already deploying battery-electric heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) . As the MCS connector gains traction as the universal standard for heavy-duty commercial EVs, Tesla has the opportunity to extend access to its Megacharger network to third-party fleets. DHL and Tesla Semi Progress
Recent developments also highlight progress with the Tesla Semi itself. In December 2025, DHL took delivery of its first Tesla Semi following a trial period and completed a 390-mile route on a single charge while fully loaded . Keller Logistics Group also completed a positive assessment of the vehicle, signaling a shift from pilot programs to real-world integration . During DHL’s two-week, 3,000-mile trial, the Semi achieved an efficiency rating of 1.72 kWh per mile, surpassing the industry average of 2.0 kWh per mile or higher .
