Apple Shifts Launch Strategy with Multi-Day Event, New Products on the Horizon

Apple is deviating from its traditional keynote format, opting for a three-day announcement period between March 2nd and 4th, culminating in an Apple Experience on Wednesday, March 4th, in New York, London, and Shanghai. This change signals a potential focus on hands-on demonstrations of new products.

A Break from Tradition

Unlike typical Apple launches, there will be no live broadcast on the company’s website. This shift, first noted by John Gruber of Daring Fireball, is unusual as Apple generally reserves Tuesdays for keynote presentations. The invitation for the March 4th event explicitly labels it an “experience,” suggesting a greater emphasis on product interaction.

New Designs and a Low-Cost MacBook

The move towards hands-on sessions implies Apple has significant design changes to showcase. A low-cost MacBook, potentially featuring bright colors, is widely anticipated and is practically confirmed by the invitation’s color scheme. Simply updating the chip in existing models wouldn’t necessitate inviting press and influencers for in-person demonstrations.

Expected Product Lineup

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple plans to unveil at least five products spanning hardware, software, and chips. Key expected releases include:

  • Low-Cost MacBook: An aluminum-cased MacBook in various colors.
  • iPhone 17e: A more affordable iPhone model, following the launch of the iPhone 16e in February 2025.
  • Updated MacBook Pros: New models that have been delayed for several months.
  • MacBook Air: A potential refresh, as March is a typical release window for this model.
  • iPads: The iPad Air with the M4 chip and a base-model iPad with the A18 processor.

Further Potential Releases

Beyond these, Apple may also introduce a revamped Mac Studio and a new Apple Studio Display in the first half of 2026. Inventory shortages of external displays at Apple stores suggest an update is imminent. Retail sources also indicate low stock of the iPhone 16e, iPad Air, 13- and 15-inch M4 MacBook Air, and 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro with M4 Pro and M4 Max, signaling upcoming replacements.

Color Trends and Future iPhones

Apple is also finalizing the color palette for its upcoming devices. Mark Gurman indicates a new red tone could become the signature color for the iPhone 18 Pro, succeeding the Cosmic Orange of the iPhone 17 Pro, which has been particularly popular in China.
