Ukraine Police Targeted in Series of Attacks

Ukrainian police have been the target of multiple attacks in recent days, raising concerns about a deliberate campaign to destabilize the country. Explosions occurred in Dnipro and Mykolaiv on Monday, February 23, 2026, following a similar incident in Lviv on Saturday, February 22, 2026.

Recent Attacks and Casualties

In Mykolaiv, seven patrol police officers were injured on Monday evening when an explosion struck a defunct gas station during a shift change. Two officers are in serious condition, and doctors are working to save their lives. The explosion occurred around 6:10 p.m. Local time. Investigators have classified the incident as a terrorist attack and have launched a pre-trial investigation.

Hours later, a police administrative building in Dnipro’s Amur-Nizhnedniprovskyi district was hit by an explosion at approximately 8:30 p.m. No casualties were reported in the Dnipro incident, but the blast caused significant damage to the building’s interior, office equipment, and a nearby vehicle.

On Saturday, February 22, 2026, an explosion in Lviv killed one policewoman and injured 25 people.

Official Response

National Police Chief Ivan Vyhivskyi described the series of explosions as a deliberate attempt by Russian-linked actors to “destabilize the situation within the country.” President Volodymyr Zelensky said that all circumstances are being investigated.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has opened a terrorism investigation into the Mykolaiv attack, although the Dnipro blast is currently being handled by the National Police.

Related Incident in Moscow

A separate attack targeting law enforcement occurred in Moscow, where a man detonated an explosive near a police patrol car at a train station. One officer was killed, and two others were injured. The perpetrator also died in the explosion.
