Search Resumes for 13-Year-Old Boy Missing in Kallang River

Singapore – Search operations resumed on Thursday, February 26, 2026, for Daniel, a 13-year-old boy who went missing in the Kallang River on February 25, 2026. The search began around 7:00 AM, more than 16 hours after he was first reported missing.

What Happened?

Daniel reportedly fell into the Kallang River while fishing with friends. According to a friend, Daniel fell in while attempting to free a fishing line entangled in a net. While friends attempted a rescue, Daniel was swept away by the current. Another boy also fell into the water but was successfully rescued.

Mother’s Plea and Concerns

Daniel’s mother, Madam Siti, expressed her distress, stating that her son had no prior fishing experience and questioned why he joined his friends. She also mentioned that a teacher had warned him against fishing during the month of Ramadan. Madam Siti, originally from Surabaya, Indonesia, also noted that Daniel is not a strong swimmer. She has been vigilantly waiting at the river near Block 8B, Upper Boon Keng Road, since learning of her son’s disappearance.

Family Circumstances

Madam Siti is facing hard personal circumstances, with her husband in prison and her in-laws unwell. She was working as a food stall operator when she received the news and immediately rushed to the scene. She has been accompanied by her two other sons, aged 14 and 11, while keeping vigil.

Search Efforts

The Singapore Civil Defence Force’s (SCDF) Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (Dart) responded to the incident on February 25th. Initial underwater searches were suspended at 9:00 PM due to poor visibility. The SCDF resumed search operations along the Kallang River at 7:00 AM on February 26th. Police investigations have indicated no foul play is suspected at this time.

Aunt’s Description of Daniel

Daniel’s aunt described him as a calming presence within the family, known for his ability to soothe and comfort others.
