Austin, Texas – Police are investigating the death of a man found with gunshot wounds in a homeless encampment in northeast Austin on Saturday, February 28, 2026. The incident marks the city’s eleventh homicide of the year.

Officers responded to a call in the 900 block of East Braker Lane at approximately 8:10 a.m. CST, where they discovered the body of a man in his 50s suffering from gunshot wounds, according to the Austin Police Department . Authorities believe the shooting occurred overnight.

The scene is described as an expansive homeless encampment . As of 10:30 a.m., nearly a dozen police units were present at the location.
