Virginia Tech Shut Out Troy 8-0 in Saturday Softball Matchup

AUBURN, Ala. – The Virginia Tech Hokies defeated the Troy Trojans 8-0 on Saturday morning at Jane B. Moore Field, marking the first shutout of the season for the Trojans. Virginia Tech improved to 14-2 with the win, even as Troy fell to 12-6.

Game Highlights

Virginia Tech took an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning off a wild pitch and a two-run home run. They extended their advantage to 4-0 with a run in the third and added two more in the fourth. A two-out rally in the fifth inning pushed the game into run-rule territory.

Troy’s Performance

Makaley Boswell recorded one of Troy’s two hits, hitting a double to left-center field in the fourth inning. Presley Ivey added a single in the fifth, and also earned a walk. Despite the offensive efforts, the Trojans were unable to capitalize and were thrown out at home to finish the game.

Key Moments

Mya Holt managed to hold Virginia Tech scoreless in the second inning, aided by a leaping catch by Dailynn Motes. However, Virginia Tech’s consistent offensive pressure proved too much for the Trojans to overcome.

Coach Newell’s Comments

“It was a disappointing day against a really good Virginia Tech team,” said Head Coach Eric Newell. “They can really swing it and they’re a lot to handle for sure. Anytime we get beat, it’s going to be a little disappointing, but at times we competed pretty well. We’re going to keep battling and keep preparing.”
