Volkswagen Surpasses Two Million Electric Vehicle Deliveries, Eyes Future Growth

Volkswagen has reached a significant milestone in its electric vehicle (EV) journey, delivering two million electric cars globally. This achievement underscores the company’s commitment to electromobility and its expanding portfolio of battery electric vehicles (BEVs). The company began its EV transition in 2013 with the e-up!, and has since broadened its range to include models like the ID.3, ID.4, and ID.7.

Early Steps in Electrification

Volkswagen’s foray into electric mobility began in 2013 with the launch of the e-up!, a small city car. This was followed by the e-Golf, further expanding the company’s electric offerings. These early models laid the groundwork for Volkswagen’s current EV strategy.

The ID. Family and MEB Platform

A pivotal moment in Volkswagen’s EV strategy was the introduction of the ID.3 in 2019. This model was the first production car to utilize the Modular Electric Drive Platform (MEB), a dedicated platform for electric vehicles. Approximately 628,000 units of the ID.3 have been delivered as of this milestone.

ID.4 Leads the Charge

The ID.4 has emerged as Volkswagen’s best-selling electric vehicle, with approximately 901,000 deliveries (including the ID.5 coupé version) since 2021. Volkswagen highlights the ID.4 as a key driver of growth in global BEV markets, particularly in Germany, Europe, China, and the United States.

Expanding the EV Lineup

In 2023, Volkswagen expanded its EV lineup with the introduction of the ID.7, a fully electric sedan, and later the ID.7 Tourer station wagon. These models represent Volkswagen’s commitment to offering a wider range of electric vehicles to meet diverse customer needs.

Future Plans: Modern Small EVs

Looking ahead, Volkswagen plans to launch four new small electric cars by 2026, including the ID. Polo and ID. Cross, both under the Volkswagen brand. This expansion will further solidify Volkswagen’s position in the rapidly growing EV market.

Production and Delivery

The two millionth Volkswagen electric car was produced at the Zwickau factory and delivered to a customer at the Transparent Factory delivery center in Dresden.
