Actress Amanda Seyfried, currently promoting Mona Fastvold’s The Testament of Ann Lee, has spoken about her love for Ireland, her rural life in upstate New York, and the importance of hobbies.
A Potential Move to Ireland?
Seyfried revealed to an interviewer that she and her husband, actor Thomas Sadoski, have discussed the possibility of purchasing land outside of Dublin, citing their shared affection for Ireland. She hasn’t visited since 2018, with the pandemic disrupting travel plans. In a candid moment, she even mused about the logistical challenges of transporting her farm animals to Ireland, questioning, “Do you think that would be possible… to Ireland?”
Life on the Farm
Seyfried and Sadoski share a rural lifestyle on their New York farm with a variety of rescued animals, including ducks, chickens, goats, cats, and horses. She described the benefits of this lifestyle, stating, “It’s nature. You have space and the energy coming from animals. The needs of animals really simplify things.”
The Testament of Ann Lee and Connecting to the Role
Seyfried’s latest role in The Testament of Ann Lee, a film about the founder of the Shaker religious movement, Ann Lee, drew a parallel to her life on the farm. She noted the connection between tending to animals and understanding Ann Lee’s life, adding that her appreciation for the poetry of Mary Oliver also aided in connecting with the character’s “pure” nature. The film, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival, is described as an epic tale honoring Ann Lee’s life and highlighting female agency.

Seyfried acknowledged the challenges of balancing her career with her husband’s, noting that she has been prioritizing her function, allowing Sadoski to pursue his own opportunities. She also reflected on the difficulties faced by women in the industry, referencing her experiences in a “pre-Me Too” era and recalling being removed from a television role as a teenager.

Seyfried emphasized the importance of having hobbies, stating, “Hobbies have saved my life.” She shared her passion for various crafts, including making hanging baskets, crocheting, knitting, embroidery, and creating paper-star garlands and origami.
