Charleston County Hosts Candidate Filing Workshop Ahead of 2026 Election

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Charleston County Board of Voter Registration and Elections (BVRE) is offering a workshop to assist individuals interested in running for office in the 2026 election. The workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. To 8:00 p.m. At Charleston County Elections Headquarters, located at 4340 Corporate Road in North Charleston.

Workshop Details

The workshop aims to guide potential candidates through the filing process and address common questions that arise during election cycles. Topics will include the filing process for both partisan and nonpartisan offices, preparation steps, associated fees, and key election laws. County officials will as well address campaigning guidelines and regulations regarding candidate literature.

Addressing Candidate Concerns

Isaac Cramer, director of the Charleston County Board of Voter Registration and Elections, emphasized the workshop’s purpose is to ensure candidates are well-prepared. “We get questions throughout the entire year about candidates, how to grow a candidate, what [one might] need to do,” Cramer said. “People are incredibly excited about that process and the goal is really to give them the tools they need to get the filing done properly.”

Cramer noted that candidates sometimes submit incomplete filings or incorrect fees, and the workshop is designed to prevent these issues. Political organizations, parties, churches, and civic groups are encouraged to attend and disseminate information within their communities.

Filing Period and Resources

The candidate filing period for the 2026 election begins in March. Potential candidates can find more information, including how to RSVP for the workshop, on the Charleston County Board of Voter Registration and Elections website. A Candidate Filing Guide is also available for download. The 2026 Election Calendar provides important dates and deadlines.
