Martin Hyský Faces Challenges at Viktoria Plzeň After Cup Exit

“We are extremely dissatisfied with how today’s match went and with the result we are leaving with. It’s simply about our performance,” Hyský stated to Oneplay Sport. He pinpointed a lackluster first half as a key factor in the defeat, criticizing the team’s pace and quality.

“It was very lukewarm, lacking pace and quality. Football in our presentation is now terribly elaborate. We are unable to score, at the same time we are conceding cheap goals,” Hyský assessed.

The loss to Karviná marked Viktoria Plzeň’s third consecutive competitive match without a win. “we cannot be absolutely satisfied and there must be a reaction,” emphasized the coach. Defender Dávid Krčík echoed this sentiment, expressing his disappointment to fans after the match.

“A huge disappointment. This is not how we imagined the match at all. We wanted to advance to the semi-finals,” Krčík admitted. He noted that discussions with fans after the game involved both criticism and encouragement, emphasizing the need to persevere.

Defensive and Offensive Struggles

Krčík attributed the loss to Viktoria’s own inaccuracies, both in midfield and in the final phase of play. He stated that Karviná capitalized on these errors with quick counterattacks. “We were inaccurate both in the middle of the field and in the final phase. Karviná benefited from that and then went into two quick counterattacks, which she took advantage of. It was more our fault than the opponent’s style of play bothering us,” he explained.

Hyský attempted to revitalize the team during the break with substitutions, aiming to increase the pace and deliver crosses into the goal, but these efforts proved unsuccessful.

This defeat comes shortly after Viktoria Plzeň’s elimination from the Europa League on penalties against Panathinaikos. “I am very very disappointed. This week was very defining for us and we didn’t manage it,” Hyský admitted.
