Greg Cutler Resigns from Manchester Select Board, Leaving Vacancy in Vermont Town

MANCHESTER, VT – The town of Manchester, Vermont, is seeking a new member for its Select Board following the resignation of Greg Cutler, who has served on the board since 2016. Cutler announced his decision on Friday, March 6, citing increased international travel plans with his family and a planned semi-retirement as reasons for stepping down.

Reasons for Resignation

In his resignation letter, Cutler explained that the recent birth of a second grandchild, with both grandchildren living abroad, will lead to more frequent overseas travel for him and his wife. He also intends to begin semi-retirement this year, stating that these changes will make it demanding to fully dedicate himself to the demands of the Select Board role. Manchester Journal

Despite his departure, Cutler expressed confidence in the current board, stating, “I felt comfortable doing it now as there’s a great board in place.” He plans to continue his work as a real estate agent with Four Seasons/Sotheby’s International, where he has been employed since August 2022.

Years of Service and Community Involvement

Cutler’s service to the town of Manchester spans 14 years, including 11 years on the Select Board and three years on the Design Advisory Board/Development Review Board. He also served as vice-chairman of the Select Board for several years. Town of Manchester

Beyond his roles on town boards, Cutler has been actively involved in the Manchester community, serving on the boards of the Dorset VT Chamber of Commerce, Manchester Youth Baseball, and Design and Development Review in Manchester. He has also coached youth basketball and baseball within the town. He is a licensed Vermont Realtor and a professional voice actor, with a background in nonprofit management, sales, marketing, social media management, and broadcasting.

Filling the Vacancy

According to Vermont statutes, the Select Board has two options for filling the vacancy: appointing a replacement to serve until the next town meeting or calling a special election. The vacancy must be posted within 10 days of the resignation, and Town Manager Scott Murphy plans to post the opening quickly. Manchester Journal

Select Board Chairman Ivan Beattie indicated that the board is likely to appoint a replacement to serve until the next election, following the precedent set in previous resignations. Interested individuals will be asked to submit a Letter of Interest to the Select Board. The board is next scheduled to meet on Tuesday, March 17, at 7 p.m.

Beattie praised Cutler’s contributions to the Select Board, stating, “I have enjoyed working with him over the years.” The board reorganization, typically held after the March Town Meeting, will include the election of a new chair and other board positions.
