Pixar Announces New Films: ‘Monsters Inc. 3,’ ‘Incredibles 3,’ and ‘Coco 2’ in Development

Pixar is expanding its beloved franchises with sequels to ‘Monsters, Inc.,’ ‘The Incredibles,’ and ‘Coco,’ alongside new original projects. The studio revealed plans for ‘Monsters Inc. 3,’ with a tentative release window, as well as ‘Incredibles 3’ slated for 2028 and ‘Coco 2’ aiming for a 2029 debut.

‘Monsters Inc. 3’ is in Early Development

A third installment in the ‘Monsters, Inc.’ franchise is officially in the works, according to reports from Deadline and Comicbookmovie.com. Details regarding the plot and characters remain scarce at this early stage of development. The original ‘Monsters, Inc.’ (2001) and its sequel, ‘Monsters University’ (2013), collectively grossed over $1 billion worldwide.

‘Incredibles 3’ Targeting 2028 Release

Fans of the Parr family can anticipate the arrival of ‘Incredibles 3’ in 2028. Deadline reports that Peter Sohn, known for his work on ‘Elemental,’ will be directing the sequel. Brad Bird is writing the screenplay and producing. The project was initially announced at Disney’s D23 fan event in August 2024.

‘Coco 2’ Planned for 2029

Pixar is also developing a sequel to the critically acclaimed and commercially successful ‘Coco,’ with a planned release in 2029. This marks the first follow-up to the 2017 film, which earned over $823 million globally, as noted in Deadline. Further details about the story and characters are currently unavailable.

Additional Projects in Development

Beyond these sequels, Pixar is also working on original projects, including a musical directed by Domee Shi, the filmmaker behind ‘Turning Red,’ and a feature film adaptation of the initially conceived streaming series ‘Ono Ghost Market,’ inspired by Asian myths about supernatural bazaars, as reported by AOL.

Disney has reserved release dates in March 10 and June 16 of 2028 for a Pixar film, according to Deadline.
