Son-in-Law Cuts Off Mother-in-Law’s Nose in Rajasthan
A man allegedly cut off his mother-in-law’s nose with scissors in Jalore district, Rajasthan, on Saturday, following a prolonged family dispute. The accused then fled the scene with the severed part, according to police reports.
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred around 5 PM on Saturday in the Sarwana Police Station area. Kaili Devi, 52, was attacked while on her way to file a complaint against her son-in-law, Sohanlal, at the police station.
Background of the Couple
Sohanlal, son of Bhawarlal Kadwasra and Sarita, daughter of Babulal Khichad, had been married for approximately six years under the traditional ‘Aata-Sata’ (exchange marriage) system. The couple had been facing marital disputes for nearly a year, leading Sarita to live separately from her husband. Attempts to resolve the dispute through community-level panchayat meetings were unsuccessful.
The Attack and Aftermath
According to Kaili Devi, tensions had been escalating for several days. A heated argument occurred at their home around 2 PM on Saturday, prompting her to seek assistance from the Sarwana police station. Sohanlal allegedly attacked her with scissors while she was en route to the station, severing her nose. He then fled with the severed part.
Kaili Devi was initially taken to a government hospital in Sanchore before being transferred to a hospital in Mehsana, Gujarat, for further treatment due to the severity of her injuries.
Police Investigation
Sarwana circle inspector Mohanlal Kumawat stated that the accused believed Kaili Devi was responsible for the family conflict and had previously accused her of instigating his wife against him. Police have registered a case and are currently searching for Sohanlal.
