Hoppers Soars to $88M Global Opening, Outperforming Pixar Originals
Pixar’s latest animated adventure, Hoppers, has achieved a significant box office breakthrough, grossing $88 million globally during its opening weekend. This marks the best debut for an original animated film and the strongest opening for a Pixar original since 2017’s Coco, which earned $104.7 million worldwide in comparable releases.
Global Box Office Performance
The film’s global performance is broken down as $42 million internationally (representing an 81% international footprint) and $46 million domestically. Saturday’s earnings saw a 45% increase over Friday’s, with a domestic Saturday take of $19.1 million following $13.2 million from Friday/previews.
Hoppers is attracting a broad audience, with 52% general admission and 48% families. This is notable as Pixar films often lean towards a higher family demographic, typically around 60%.
International Market Highlights
Hoppers debuted as the number one film in numerous major markets, including the UK ($6.4M), Mexico ($3.7M), France ($3.6M), Germany ($3.5M), Spain ($2.8M), Korea ($2.1M), Italy ($1.9M), and Brazil ($1.8M). In France, Hoppers surpassed the local family title Marsupilami in its fifth weekend for the top spot.
The film also performed well in Belgium (No. 2) and India (No. 4), despite the challenges original U.S. Animation often faces in the Indian market.
Across Europe, Hoppers opened as the number one non-local film in nearly all markets, becoming the second-highest opening weekend of 2026 regionally and the highest for an original animated film since Coco (2017). Poland contributed $1 million to the total.
Similarly, in Latin America, Hoppers debuted at #1 in all markets, achieving the highest opening weekend of 2026 to date in most countries and the highest opening for an original animated film since Elemental.
The film also opened at #1 (non-local) in Korea, Philippines, Thailand, India, and Indonesia, marking the highest non-local opening of 2026 in all five markets. In both India and Thailand, Hoppers achieved the highest grossing original animated film opening since the pandemic.
Future Market Openings
Upcoming releases are planned for Japan, Israel, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Vietnam next weekend, with China following on March 20 and Australia on March 26 to coincide with school breaks. The performance of Hoppers in China remains to be seen, though the film’s trailer has generated positive buzz following the success of Zootopia 2 in the region.
Other Releases
Elsewhere, The Bride! earned $6.3 million internationally in 70 markets, falling short of its forecasted $38 million to $40 million global start. The film’s worldwide opening totaled $13.6 million off an $80 million production cost and a $65 million global P&A spend. The film’s best performance was in the UK, with $950K, ranking at No. 4.
