Elon University Baseball Secures CAA Series Win Over North Carolina A&T, 11-8

Elon University baseball defeated North Carolina A&T 11-8 on Sunday, securing a series win in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play. The Phoenix offense, which had struggled in the series opener, erupted for 19 runs over the final two games.

Key Performances

Jose Mariano led the Phoenix with a three-hit performance, driving in two runs and scoring twice. Gavin Bogdanchik added a multi-hit game, highlighted by a two-run double. Jared Hall also contributed with two hits, two runs scored, and two RBIs.

RJ Latkowski earned his fourth save of the year, closing out the victory. Cole Hansen secured his second win of the season, tying his season-high with five strikeouts.

How the Game Unfolded

North Carolina A&T jumped to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. Elon responded with a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Mariano.

The Phoenix took the lead in the third inning, scoring five runs with RBIs from Hall, Kevin Denty, and Jake Hajdu. They extended their advantage to 9-3 in the fourth, fueled by another RBI single from Mariano and a two-run double by Bogdanchik.

A&T narrowed the gap with two runs in the fifth, but Elon answered with a run of their own, thanks to aggressive base running by Henry Akopov. The Aggies added three more runs in the seventh, but Brian DuRoff’s RBI single in the bottom of the frame provided insurance for the Phoenix.

Sam Nomura and Latkowski shut down the Aggies in the final two innings, securing the 11-8 victory.
