Alexandre Letellier: From PSG Third Goalkeeper to Unemployment
Alexandre Letellier, a goalkeeper previously with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), experienced a unique career path, transitioning from a defined role as the club’s third goalkeeper to finding himself unemployed as his contract ended. His story highlights the complexities and uncertainties faced by professional athletes.
Early Career and Return to PSG
Letellier began his career with PSG, receiving training at the club before moving on to other teams. He eventually returned to PSG in 2020, accepting a position as the third goalkeeper during the COVID-19 pandemic. This return allowed him to be closer to his family and friends in Paris.
A Defined Role at PSG
Upon signing with PSG, Letellier understood his role within the team’s goalkeeping hierarchy. As the third goalkeeper, he acknowledged limited playing time but valued the opportunity to be part of a competitive environment. He stated in a 2025 interview on the RMC Poker Show: “In all clubs, you have a hierarchy, you have number 1, number 2, number 3. When I signed in Paris, the project and my role were defined in advance. Afterwards, you have a little frustration because you are competitive and you aim for to play. You also find pleasure in training sessions. For 4 years, I had the chance to be in some crazy teams. Is this a career choice that I’m making? Yes I accepted the role that was offered to me.” Le 10 Sport
Contract Expiration and Unemployment
As his contract with PSG neared its end, Letellier faced the reality of potential unemployment. He explained the circumstances surrounding his contract expiration: “After my signing in Paris, there were several factors. Already, I was trained at the club, I came back to my city where there was my family, my friends. And also, the time when it happens is during Covid. And me during Covid, the last club I was at, I reached the end of my contract which meant that I found myself unemployed. And that’s when Paris comes to pick me up.” Le 10 Sport
