Edgewood University Men’s Volleyball Defeats Concordia Wisconsin in Five-Set Thriller, Prepares for Matchup Against No. 8 SUNY Novel Paltz

MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood University men’s volleyball team battled to a 3-2 victory over Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the Todd Wehr Edgedome during Alumni Day. The Eagles (7-10, 4-4 NACC) overcame a strong start by the Falcons (2-15, 2-5) to secure the win with set scores of 25-13, 23-25, 21-25, 25-23, and 15-11.

How It Happened

Edgewood University dominated the first set, holding Concordia Wisconsin to a .000 hitting percentage. A strong service run by Ethan Hoffert, with 11 unanswered points, propelled the Eagles to a 14-3 lead and ultimately a 25-13 victory.

The second set was a back-and-forth affair. The Eagles led 9-7 after a four-point run, but the Falcons responded with a 4-0 stretch to capture a 14-12 lead. After tying the set at 19-19, Concordia Wisconsin closed out the set 25-23.

Concordia Wisconsin continued their momentum into the third set, jumping to a 10-4 lead. Despite a late push from Edgewood University, trailing 22-21, the Falcons secured the set 25-21 with a kill and an ace.

The fourth set saw Edgewood University regain their composure. Oakley Griggs sparked a rally with a kill and three consecutive aces, giving the Eagles a 14-12 advantage. After a tie at 21-21, Edgewood University finished the set 25-23, forcing a decisive fifth set.

The fifth set was closely contested, with the Falcons initially leading 5-1. However, the Eagles responded with a 5-1 run to tie the score at 6-6. Edgewood University then closed out the set and the match on a 5-1 burst, winning 15-11.

Edgewood University outhit Concordia Wisconsin .297 to .221. The Eagles recorded 10 aces compared to the Falcons’ 6, and a 12-9 advantage in blocks.

Cade Schueller led the Eagles with 21 kills and three blocks. Owen Voigt added 10 kills and seven blocks, while Tanner Sindorf anchored the defense with 20 digs. Hoffert orchestrated the offense with 48 assists.

Oakley Griggs had a standout performance, recording 19 kills on 32 attempts with only three errors for a .500 hitting percentage, along with six aces.

For Concordia Wisconsin, Hayden Hurley tallied a 45-assist, 14-dig double-double, and Owen Kolozsy and Reid Scott each recorded 19 kills.
