Unveiling Price Wars: NVIDIA’s Budget RTX 50 Series Prepares to Land

NVIDIA’s foray into the mid-range graphics card market is gaining momentum. Chaintech, a key manufacturing partner for Colorful in China, has dropped hints in its 2025 financial projections about a coming wave of RTX 50-series GPUs, specifically targeting budget-conscious gamers.

According to Chaintech’s projections, the RTX 5070 Ti and the RTX 5070 will kick off the expansion in February 2025. March is then pegged as the launch month for the RTX 5060 Ti, followed quickly by the base-model RTX 5060. This aggressive release schedule indicates NVIDIA’s commitment to capturing a larger share of the GPU market.

The prospect of these more affordable RTX 50 series cards has sent ripples through the gaming community. The RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 5060, in particular, are expected to offer compelling performance at attractive price points, potentially shaking up the mid-range segment dominated by the previous generation’s RTX 3060 series.

Jim Davies, Chief Analyst at tech insight, commented on the potential impact of the new releases: “The old adage ‘competition is good for everyone’ certainly applies here. A wider availability of decent-performing GPUs at competitive prices can put downward pressure on older models, benefiting budget-conscious gamers."

He further added: "However, the situation with AMD is a bit more complex. They will likely adjust their strategies accordingly, potentially pushing their own offerings to maintain pace and market share."

While the full specifications of the upcoming cards remain shrouded in mystery, several leaks suggest the RTX 5060 will be based on the GB207 chip, boasting 8GB of GDDR7 memory and 20 SMs (2560 shaders). The RTX 5060 Ti is rumored to utilize the full GB206 chip with 16GB of GDDR7 memory and a maximum of 36 SMs (4608 shaders).

A key question on everyone’s minds is how these new competitive offerings will affect pricing in the GPU market. Will we see price drops on older models? Will AMD respond with similar budget cards? The coming months will undoubtedly be a fascinating period for gamers as they weigh the new offerings and navigate a shifting landscape.
