Melbourne Victory Defeats Macarthur FC in A-League Clash
Melbourne Victory secured a dominant 4-1 victory over Macarthur FC at AAMI Park on Sunday, propelling them to fourth place on the Isuzu UTE A-League ladder. The win marks Victory’s ninth of the season and extends their unbeaten streak to six games.
Early Goals Set the Tone
The home side started strongly, with an early attempt from Keegan Jelacic saved by Macarthur goalkeeper Filip Kurto. The breakthrough came in the 12th minute with an own goal from Macarthur defender Damien De Silva, who inadvertently slid a Jelacic cross into his own net. Victory doubled their lead in the 25th minute when Charles Nduka set up Denis Genreau for a goal from the edge of the box. Genreau, who previously played for Macarthur, scored his first goal since October.
Vickery Responds for Macarthur
Macarthur managed to pull one back in the 37th minute thanks to a stunning curling effort from Luke Vickery. The 20-year-old attacker fired the ball beyond Jack Warshawsky, reducing the deficit. Vickery, who joined Macarthur ahead of the 2025/26 season after playing at Western United, has quickly turn into a key player for the Bulls.
Victory Seals the Win
Melbourne Victory solidified their lead in the second half. Sebastian Esposito headed home a corner from Juan Mata to craft it 3-1 and Charles Nduka tapped in a low delivery from Mata three minutes later, sealing the 4-1 victory. Arthur Diles’ side now leapfrog Adelaide United into fourth place.
Looking Ahead
Macarthur FC will need to regroup as they continue their fight to secure a spot in the top six, currently sitting two points outside of contention with five rounds remaining. Melbourne Victory will aim to maintain their momentum as they push for a higher position on the A-League ladder.
