Miss Chinatown Houston Pageant Announces 2026 Competition, Scholarship Opportunities

The 54th Miss Chinatown Houston Pageant, a longstanding tradition hosted by the Chinese American Citizens Alliance (C.A.C.A.) Houston Lodge, will be held on July 25, 2026. The event serves as both a showcase of talent and a significant scholarship competition for the Houston Chinese-American community.

An orientation meeting was held on March 14th at the Chinese Cultural Service Center, attracting prospective contestants and their families. The pageant aims to cultivate self-confidence and develop leadership skills in young women, offering a comprehensive training program rather than a traditional beauty competition.

A Leadership Development Program

Pageant director Betty Gee emphasized the competition’s focus on fostering self-assurance and leadership. The program equips participants with interpersonal skills and confidence, preparing them for success in fields like medicine, law, engineering, and the arts.

From the Stage to Higher Education

Megan Martono, the 2025 champion and current Miss Chinatown USA runner-up, shared her experience at the orientation. Currently a master’s student in violin performance at Rice University, Martono stated she participated to explore her Chinese identity and share her musical talents with the community. She described the experience as “life-changing,” noting she gained confidence in public speaking and self-acceptance through the intensive seven-month preparation process.

Comprehensive Training and Support

Tammy Su, head of the pageant activity team, outlined the training system available to contestants. This includes:

• Appearance and Catwalk: Professional instruction on stage presence and presentation.
• Public Speaking: Guidance from psychiatrists at Baylor College of Medicine on effective communication under pressure, beneficial for future interviews.
• Image Management: Healthcare advice, styling consultations, and professional portrait photography.
• Talent Optimization: Assistance for classical music or dance professionals to adapt their skills for stage performance.

Scholarships and Prizes

The winner of the Miss Chinatown Houston Pageant will receive a $6,000 scholarship and the opportunity to compete for the 2027 Miss Chinatown USA title. Additional prizes, ranging from thousands of dollars, will be awarded to the first, second, and third princesses, as well as to the winners of the Miss Talent and Miss Photogenic awards. All finalists who complete the competition will receive a $1,500 scholarship.

Eligibility and Application

To be eligible, contestants must be single Chinese females between 17 and 28 years old (with at least 25% Chinese ancestry) and hold U.S. Citizenship or permanent resident status. The application deadline is April 15th, with training and rehearsals beginning in May.

Currently, five contestants have registered. The organizing committee encourages more qualified young women to participate and leverage the platform to showcase their talents and cultural heritage.
