Fortnite Back on Google Play Store Worldwide, Alongside Novel Game Updates

After a nearly four-year absence, Fortnite is returning to the Google Play Store globally on March 19, coinciding with the launch of the game’s latest season. The move follows a settlement between Epic Games and Google, resolving a long-standing legal dispute over in-app purchase fees Engadget.

The Epic Games vs. Google Dispute

Google removed Fortnite from the Play Store in 2020 after Epic Games attempted to circumvent Google’s standard 30% commission on in-app purchases. Apple took similar action with the App Store version of the game. Epic Games subsequently filed lawsuits against both companies, initiating years of legal battles Engadget.

The dispute with Apple led to changes in the App Store’s policies in certain markets, including the US and EU. Fortnite was reinstated on the App Store in the EU in 2024 and in the US last year. In November, Google and Epic reached a settlement, and Google announced it would reduce its in-app payment cut to between 10% and 20% Engadget.

Fortnite offers a variety of game modes, including:
