VINCI to Upgrade Rhône River Locks for Enhanced Traffic and Safety

The Compagnie Nationale du Rhône has awarded a €68 million contract to a consortium led by VINCI Construction, in partnership with VINCI Energies, to modernize the Bollène and Châteauneuf-du-Rhône locks in southeastern France. The project, commencing in March 2026, aims to improve the safety and capacity of the Rhône River for increased low-carbon transport.

Project Details

The contract involves the addition of a second set of downstream gates at both the Bollène (Vaucluse) and Châteauneuf-du-Rhône (Drôme) locks VINCI. The five-year project will require expertise in civil, hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical engineering. Operate will be carefully coordinated to maintain continuous operation of the existing lock systems and adjacent roadways throughout the construction period.

Financial Breakdown and VINCI’s Role

VINCI’s share of the €68 million project is valued at €45 million VINCI. The consortium includes subsidiaries of VINCI Construction (Campenon Bernard Centre-Est, GTM Sud, and Océlian), an Actemium company (VINCI Energies brand), and Baudin Chateauneuf VINCI.
