South Gyeongsang Province Intensifies Hygiene Inspections Ahead of Spring Outing Season
Gyeongsangnam-do Province is proactively ensuring public health safety by conducting joint hygiene inspections of food handling establishments in multi-use facilities. This initiative, running from March 19th to 25th, aims to prepare for the anticipated increase in visitors during the spring outing season.
Focus on High-Traffic Areas
The inspections will target locations known for attracting large crowds, including local festival sites, national and public parks, and amusement parks. Sanitary conditions at highway rest areas, bus terminals, golf course clubhouses, restaurants near the National Sports Festival Stadium, and food trucks will also be scrutinized.1
Inspection Priorities
Inspectors will be focusing on several key areas to ensure food safety:
- Verification of food expiration dates to prevent the sale or use of expired products.
- Assessment of kitchen hygiene management and adherence to facility standards.
- Confirmation of proper food material storage temperatures and prevention of food reuse.
- Evaluation of personal hygiene practices, including employee health examinations.
Price Stability Checks
In addition to hygiene, the province will also monitor price stability, ensuring restaurants clearly display price lists and adhere to those listed prices, addressing concerns about rising costs.
Food Safety Testing
To further safeguard public health, 30 samples of commonly consumed prepared foods – including gimbap, hot bars, tteokbokki, and hamburgers – will be collected and tested for E. Coli and other food poisoning bacteria.
Enforcement and Follow-Up
Businesses found to be in violation of relevant laws and regulations will be subject to administrative action and will be required to undergo a re-inspection within six months.
Provincial Commitment to Public Health
“We will do our best to ensure that residents can enjoy food with peace of mind through preemptive hygiene management of food provided in multi-use facilities during the spring season when outdoor activities increase,” stated an official from Gyeongsangnam-do Province.2
