King Seiko has expanded its VANAC line with three modern titanium models, evoking the style of 1980s Tokyo. Priced at AUD$6,000 each, these watches blend retro aesthetics with modern materials and engineering.

A Legacy Reborn

The VANAC series originally debuted in 1972, known for its bold, colorful, and multifaceted designs. After a reintroduction last year featuring the Calibre 8L45 automatic movement, King Seiko continues to evolve the line with these new titanium offerings. King Seiko VANAC draws inspiration from the Tokyo horizon, a theme reflected in art, film, and popular culture.

The new VANAC models (references HKF001, HKF002, and HKF003) feature a 41.0 mm titanium case, 14.3 mm thick, with a box-shaped sapphire crystal boasting anti-reflective coating. The caseback is see-through, showcasing the movement within. Key specifications include:

Inspired by the Tokyo Landscape

Each dial incorporates horizontal and radiating lines, intended to represent the sensation of driving along Tokyo’s highways. The black dial evokes the city at night, the grey represents modern urban highways, and the purple captures the pre-dawn Tokyo horizon. The VANAC range maintains a flair for color even as highlighting the case construction.

Movement and Comfort

Powered by the Calibre 8L45, these watches offer a 72-hour power reserve and an accuracy of +10 to -5 seconds per day. The titanium construction, 40% lighter than stainless steel, and the three-fold clasp contribute to wearer comfort. The bracelet features short links that echo the dial’s horizontal lines.
