John Stamos and Danny DeVito Share SXSW Stories About ‘Drag’
At the 2026 South by Southwest Film & TV Festival, the cast and crew of the upcoming comedy crime thriller Drag revealed some amusing behind-the-scenes moments. John Stamos recounted a suggestion from co-star and producer Danny DeVito to embrace a level of on-screen nudity reminiscent of DeVito’s iconic role in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
A Suggestion from DeVito
During a discussion about Stamos’ performance in Drag, DeVito playfully suggested that the Full House star consider showing his backside on camera, referencing his own famously uninhibited portrayal of Frank Reynolds in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Stamos, admittedly unfamiliar with the specific scene DeVito referenced – a nude scene involving a couch – expressed his surprise.
“He wanted me to show my butt, first of all,” Stamos reported, adding, “I said, ‘Have you ever shown your butt?’ He said, ‘I’ve shown it all on Sunny!’” DeVito confirmed the story, highlighting his willingness to push boundaries on the FX series.
Drag: A Darkly Comic Premise
Drag, directed by Raviv Ullman & Greg Yagolnitzer, follows two sisters (Lizzy Caplan and Lucy DeVito) whose robbery of a rural New York home takes a disastrous turn when one of them suffers a back injury, leaving her immobilized. The film features John Stamos as the homeowner and also includes Christine Ko in a supporting role. The film premiered at SXSW on March 13, 2026.
SXSW Buzz and Cast Appearances
The Drag team generated buzz at SXSW, with appearances at the Collider Studio and the Deadline Studio. John Stamos was also photographed at the ‘Drag’ premiere during the festival. Danny DeVito, Jamie Lee Curtis, and others also attended the Deadline Studio event on March 14.
Drag is produced by Jake DeVito, Lucy DeVito, and Danny DeVito for Jersey Films 2nd Avenue, with music by Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump.
