Pophouse Acquires Majority Stake in Tina Turner’s Music Rights
Pophouse Entertainment, the Sweden-based music investment firm co-founded by ABBA’s Björn Ulvaeus, has acquired a majority stake in the music interests of the late Tina Turner, including her name, image, and likeness (NIL) rights. The deal, completed with BMG on March 19, 2026, signifies a strategic move to steward and elevate the legacy of the “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll.”
Strategic Partnership with BMG
The transaction establishes Pophouse as the majority owner of Tina Turner’s music interests, working alongside BMG, which will remain closely involved in protecting and developing her legacy. Pophouse and BMG will focus on long-term stewardship and creative projects that honor Turner’s artistry.
A Legacy of Impact
Tina Turner (1939-2023) was a groundbreaking performer, inducted twice into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and a recipient of 12 Grammy Awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award. She is recognized as one of the best-selling female artists of all time, with hits like “What’s Love Got to Do with It” and “The Best.” Turner broke barriers throughout her 50-year touring career, notably becoming the first Black artist and first woman to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine in 1967. Billboard reports she also performed for a record-breaking crowd at Rio de Janeiro’s Maracanã Stadium in 1988.
Pophouse’s Expanding Portfolio
This acquisition marks the latest in a series of high-profile catalog deals for Pophouse, which was founded in 2014 by Björn Ulvaeus and Conni Jonsson. Music Business Worldwide notes that Pophouse closed its debut fund, Pophouse Fund I, in March 2025, raising over EUR €1.2 billion (USD $1.3 billion) to invest in music catalogs and IP. The firm’s portfolio already includes partnerships with KISS, Cyndi Lauper, Avicii, and Swedish House Mafia.
The ABBA Voyage Model
Pophouse is known for its innovative approach to artist IP, exemplified by ABBA Voyage, the avatar-powered concert series in London. The company aims to create immersive experiences and activations around its acquired IP, and CEO Jessica Koravos has indicated a focus on celebrating the latter part of Tina Turner’s career and capturing her energy as a live performer. A KISS avatar show is also currently in development, slated for 2027.
BMG’s Continued Role
BMG originally acquired an extensive portfolio of rights related to Turner’s music and image in October 2021, in a deal estimated to be worth around $50 million. BMG will continue to work with Pophouse and the Tina Turner Estate to ensure her work resonates with audiences worldwide, remaining true to her strength, independence, and originality.
“We are incredibly proud to be entrusted with helping celebrate and develop Tina Turner’s extraordinary legacy,” said Johan Lagerlöf, Pophouse Managing Partner & Head of Investments.
