King Seiko Vanac Titanium: A Bold Sports Watch Gets a Lightweight Upgrade

King Seiko has unveiled a titanium version of its Vanac sports watch, available in three dial colors. The new model offers a roughly 40% weight reduction compared to the steel version, along with a redesigned dial inspired by Tokyo’s urban landscape. The King Seiko Vanac Titanium will be available in July 2026, priced at $3,850.

A Rivalry Forged in Innovation

The King Seiko story began in 1961 as a direct response to Grand Seiko, which had debuted the previous year. Both brands originated from the Tokyo-based Daini Seikosha factory, established in 1937 as the watchmaking department of Seikosha in Kameido. The Kameido district, part of Tokyo’s historic downtown, fostered a sense of local pride that influenced the design of King Seiko watches.

The Vanac Line: A Bold Statement

The Vanac line first appeared in 1972, representing King Seiko’s most daring design yet—an integrated-bracelet sports watch embodying the confidence of the 1970s. The original Vanac was 41mm wide and 14.3mm thick.

Titanium Construction and Design Refinements

The titanium Vanac maintains the same dimensions as the steel model but is approximately 40% lighter. The use of Grade 5 titanium provides a darker, cooler tone, enhancing the contrast between polished and brushed surfaces. This results in a more modern and refined aesthetic compared to the original’s distinctly 1970s glance. The bezel-less construction contributes to a clean profile despite the watch’s visual depth.

Tokyo-Inspired Dial Design

Departing from the horizontal teak-deck pattern of the original steel Vanac, the titanium versions feature a new dial design inspired by the perspective of Tokyo’s highways. Narrow horizontal lines radiate outward from the center, creating a sense of motion and speed. The dial is available in three colors: purple (HKF001), gray (HKF002), and black (HKF003).

Movement and Specifications

The King Seiko Vanac Titanium is powered by the Caliber 8L45 automatic movement, based on Grand Seiko’s 9S65 architecture. It operates at 28,800 vph and offers a 72-hour power reserve, with an accuracy rating of +10/-5 seconds per day. The movement is visible through an exhibition caseback, showcasing a wave-patterned rotor and bridges.
