Racing Tipster Seeks Injunction Over Allegedly Defamatory Online Publications

A businessman is seeking a High Court injunction to prevent a racing tipster from publishing allegedly defamatory content online. Robert Heneghan, of Pro Sports Advice Ltd, which provides tips for the horseracing industry, has initiated legal proceedings against Gearóid Norris, of Harold Place, Mallow, Co Cork.

Background of the Case

Heneghan initially filed proceedings last month concerning a series of alleged defamatory publications dating back to March 2025. These publications appeared on platforms including X, Substack, TikTok, and others. According to an affidavit submitted by Heneghan, the material was often abusive, vulgar, and contained grossly defamatory claims.

Continued Defamatory Publications

Despite receiving a cease-and-desist letter from Heneghan’s solicitors, Norris allegedly continued to post material about Heneghan and his business. Most recently, Norris published an article on Substack claiming Heneghan threatened to kill him by shooting him in the head and too threatened his family. Heneghan asserts this claim is entirely false and has caused significant personal and professional damage.

Heneghan’s Claims

Heneghan believes the Substack article was published in an attempt to pressure him into dropping his legal proceedings regarding the previously posted defamatory material. He is seeking the immediate removal of the article and maintains its contents are untrue.

Court Proceedings

On Wednesday, Mr Justice Brian Cregan granted permission for short service of the proceedings on Mr Norris to Tom Murphy BL, for Mr Heneghan Irish Independent. The case is being heard by Mr Justice Brian Cregan Irish Times.
