Sergeant Nkosi Testifies AKA and Tibz Murder Suspects Linked to Mswazi’s Nephew
Johannesburg, South Africa – Gauteng Police Sergeant Fannie Nkosi testified before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on March 20, 2026, revealing that Tebello “Tibz” Motsonae, who was killed alongside rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes in Durban in February 2023, was the nephew of Mthakathi Mswazi. This revelation surfaced during the presentation of video footage of the shooting to the Commission.
Investigation Details and Sergeant Nkosi’s Involvement
Sergeant Nkosi stated he was involved in the early stages of the investigation into the murders of Motsoane and Forbes, with the Organized Crime Unit assisting the KwaZulu-Natal Police. He confirmed the investigation remained a KZN case, with his unit working “hand-in-glove” with local authorities. SABC News reports Nkosi is scheduled to return to the Commission on Monday for further cross-examination.
Video Footage and Sharing of Information
The Commission played the video of the shooting, and Nkosi explained how he came to possess the footage, stating it was “all over the news.” He also revealed he shared the video with an individual named Mr. Sibanda because they were discussing the case. Current Status of the Case
Seven suspects are currently on trial for the murders that took place on Florida Road in Durban. The accused include the Ndimande brothers, Siyabonga Gezani and Malusi Dave, who were extradited from eSwatini, along with Lindokuhle Thabani Mkhwanazi, Lindani Zenzele Ndimande, Siyanda Eddie Myeza, Mziwethemba Harvey Gwabeni, and Lindokuhle Lindo Ndimande. The trial has been postponed to June 19, 2026, with trial dates set for July 20 to August 21, and October 5 to November 6.
Nkosi’s Limited Disclosure
Sergeant Nkosi indicated he was initially assigned to the case by his superiors but refrained from disclosing specific details of the investigation, stating he was no longer actively involved in the probe. He also stated that when he shared the video, he was not yet involved in the case.
