Early Career and FBI Directorship
Mueller served as FBI Director from 2001 to 2013, a tenure that began shortly before the September 11th terrorist attacks. During his leadership, the FBI underwent a significant transformation, shifting its focus to intelligence gathering and counterterrorism efforts . Prior to leading the FBI, Mueller was involved in high-profile cases, including the prosecutions of Manuel Noriega and John Gotti, and the investigation into the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 .
Special Counsel Investigation
In May 2017, Mueller was appointed as Special Counsel by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to investigate potential collusion between the Russian government and Donald Trump’s presidential campaign .
