Liverpool Eye Defensive Reinforcements with Roggerio Nyakossi, Pursue Eduardo Camavinga
Liverpool are actively planning for the summer transfer window, with central defense a key area for potential investment. Swiss defender Roggerio Nyakossi of OH Leuven has emerged as a target, while the club continues to pursue Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga. Manager Arne Slot is also feeling the pressure to secure Champions League qualification.
Roggerio Nyakossi: A Potential Konate Replacement
OH Leuven central defender Roggerio Nyakossi, 22, is reportedly keen on a move to Anfield. The Belgian publication Het Nieuwsblad reports Liverpool’s interest in the player. With Ibrahima Konate’s contract expiring at the end of the season, and concerns over the injury proneness of Joe Gomez and the age of Virgil van Dijk (34), Liverpool are seeking to bolster their defensive options. Rhys Williams is also out of contract at the end of the season.
Marseille previously sold Nyakossi to OH Leuven in January 2025, including a buy-back clause. Liverpool will need to monitor whether Marseille intends to exercise that clause before making a formal offer. Nyakossi, under contract with OH Leuven until the summer of 2027, has scored three goals in 19 appearances this season.
Camavinga Pursuit Continues
Liverpool are also holding talks with the representatives of Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga. CaughtOffSide reports that Liverpool have held “two separate meetings with the player’s entourage.” Real Madrid are reportedly willing to sell Camavinga for a fee of at least €50 million (£43.4m, $54m). Manchester United and Chelsea are also interested in the France international, who can also play as a left-back.
Slot Feels the Heat
Liverpool manager Arne Slot acknowledged the pressure to secure Champions League football following a 2-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on March 22, 2026. Slot told MSN, “There is always pressure at Liverpool. On me, on the players. That is completely normal.”
With Arsenal and Manchester City expected to finish in the top two positions, the competition for the remaining Champions League spots is fierce, involving Manchester United, Aston Villa, Liverpool, Chelsea, and potentially Brentford and Everton.
Recent Liverpool Transfers
Liverpool have already secured a deal for Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes for the summer of 2026. Giovanni Leoni, signed from Parma last summer, is expected to be fit for the 2026/27 campaign following recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
