Chappell Roan Addresses Incident Following Jorginho’s Allegations
Grammy-winning singer Chappell Roan responded to accusations made by Brazilian-Italian soccer star Jorginho that a security guard mistreated his 11-year-old stepdaughter after she recognized the singer. The incident occurred while Roan was in São Paulo for the Lollapalooza Brazil music festival.
Jorginho’s Account
Jorginho Frello, a player for Flamengo, stated on Instagram that his wife and stepdaughter were staying at the same hotel as Roan. According to Jorginho, his stepdaughter, the daughter of Catherine Harding and British actor Jude Law, recognized Roan during breakfast and simply wanted to acknowledge her. Jorginho alleges that a security guard then approached his family and spoke “in an extremely aggressive manner” to both his wife and daughter. The Guardian and ABC7 Chicago reported on the footballer’s claims.
Roan’s Response
Roan addressed the allegations on Instagram, stating that the security guard was not part of her personal security team and that she did not witness the interaction. She expressed regret if the family felt uncomfortable, saying, “If you felt uncomfortable, that makes me really sad. You did not deserve that.” Roan likewise emphasized that she does not dislike fans or children. AP News covered the singer’s response.
Additional Reactions
Rio de Janeiro’s new mayor, Eduardo Cavaliere, also commented on the situation, stating that Roan would not be permitted to perform on Copacabana Beach during his tenure, contrasting with performances by Madonna, Lady Gaga, and an upcoming concert by Shakira. He also invited Jorginho’s daughter to be a guest of honor at Shakira’s concert. Yahoo Sports reported on the mayor’s statement.
Roan rose to prominence in 2024 with tracks like “Good Luck, Babe!” and “Red Wine Supernova” from her album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, and she won the Grammy for best new artist in February 2026, edging out Sabrina Carpenter.
