Abby Carr Leads Mizzou Softball in Close Series with Alabama
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri softball team (14-17, 0-4 SEC) recently concluded a challenging series against the No. 4/6 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide (28-1, 6-1 SEC), highlighted by the standout performance of freshman Abby Carr. Despite falling short in the series, Carr’s contributions, including multiple home runs and key pitching appearances, showcased her potential as a pivotal player for the Tigers.
Series Overview
Mizzou faced a tough opponent in Alabama, dropping the first game of the series 2-1 on Friday, March 20, at Mizzou Softball Stadium. The series continued on Sunday, March 22, with the Tigers falling one run short of a series win, losing 4-3. Carr played a crucial role in both games.
Carr’s Performance
Abby Carr demonstrated exceptional skill both at the plate and in the pitching circle. In the first game on Friday, she hit a solo home run in the seventh inning, marking her sixth home run of the season. On Sunday, Carr drove in all three of Mizzou’s runs, hitting two home runs – her first multi-home run game as a Tiger – against All-American pitcher Jocelyn Briski. Remarkably, Carr accounted for 50% of all home runs allowed by Briski all season.
Beyond her offensive prowess, Carr also pitched in the seventh inning of Sunday’s game, striking out two Crimson Tide batters and allowing only one hit. She also pitched 2 2/3 innings and escaped a bases-loaded jam in the seventh for her first collegiate save.

Despite the narrow losses, Mizzou Head Coach Larissa Anderson emphasized the team’s ability to put the ball in play. However, she noted a require for more “timely hitting” and avoiding strikeouts in crucial moments. Anderson praised Carr’s competitive spirit and ability to quickly recover from setbacks, describing her as a “special athlete” and “unbelievably competitive and clutch.”
Marissa McCann started the game on Sunday, pitching well initially before allowing three runs in the fourth inning. Courtney Donahue also saw action in the circle, pitching one inning.
