Brock Lesnar Reveals Story Behind Iconic Chest Tattoo: A Drunken Night in Scottsdale
Brock Lesnar, the former UFC heavyweight champion and WWE superstar, has long been recognized by the massive sword tattooed across his chest. However, the story behind the ink is far from planned, stemming from a night of heavy drinking and a series of questionable decisions.
A Night to Forget
Lesnar recently revealed the circumstances surrounding the tattoo on the “Spittin’ Chiclets” podcast. According to Lesnar, the tattoo was the result of a drunken night in Scottsdale, Arizona, while he was training for a potential NFL career. He admitted to being “shit-faced drunk” and vaguely recalled walking into a tattoo shop across from a biker bar.
“I got that tattoo, I was shit-faced drunk in Scottsdale, Ariz,” Lesnar stated. “I was in Scottsdale, training for the NFL, had just gotten in a motorcycle accident. I was just kicked down hard. I was going through all that stuff.”
Waking Up to a Surprise
The details of the night remain hazy for Lesnar, who confessed he didn’t even realize he had gotten a tattoo until the following morning. “There was a tattoo shop across the street from the biker bar and that’s not a good place to have a tattoo shop. I got this tattoo, I didn’t even know I got the damn thing. I wake up the next day and I’m like what in the [hell] is this thing?” he recounted.
Meaning Behind the Ink
Despite the impulsive nature of the tattoo, Lesnar has found a personal meaning behind it. He explained that the sword represents a feeling of being cornered and facing adversity. “The meaning behind it was, I felt like my back was against the wall and somebody had a sword, a knife stuck to my throat. Like what are you going to do now? I walked over there, and I said let’s put a big-a** ugly sword on my chest,” Lesnar said.
Lesnar, who briefly tried out for the Minnesota Vikings before finding success in both the UFC and WWE, takes full responsibility for the decision, attributing it to “half a gallon of vodka and maybe a few Vicodin.”
A Lasting Image
The sword tattoo has become an iconic part of Lesnar’s persona, and while it wasn’t a deliberate choice, it now holds a significant place in his personal story. The tattoo serves as a reminder of a challenging period in his life and a symbol of overcoming obstacles.
