Canada’s Team Dunstone continued their strong performance with a decisive 9-2 victory over Germany’s Marc Muskatewitz on Thursday afternoon. This win solidified their position in the playoff qualification round. Dunstone, vice-skip Colton Lott, second E.J. Harnden, lead Ryan Harnden, alternate Geoff Walker, team coach Caleb Flaxey and national coach Jeff Stoughton are focused on fine-tuning their strategy for the playoffs. Curling Canada reports that the team aimed to build momentum and potentially secure a better position in the playoffs.
Eighth Consecutive Victory
Following the win against Germany, Canada extended their winning streak to eight games with a 7-5 victory over Norway in the evening draw. Sportsnet notes that despite the win, Canada did not earn a direct berth to the semifinals.
Playoff Qualification and Semifinal Hopes
With a record of 10-2, Canada is tied with Sweden and Scotland in the preliminary standings. However, Sweden and Scotland have earned direct spots in the semifinals. Canada will face Italy (8-4) in the qualification round on Friday morning. CBC reports that a win in this match will send them to the semifinals on Friday evening.
Remaining Championship Schedule
The bronze- and gold-medal games are scheduled to take place on Saturday. Scotland secured a bye to the semifinals after defeating Czechia 8-2. Sweden also closed their preliminary round with an 11-2 win over Czechia. Other results from Thursday included Switzerland topping the U.S. 9-5 and China edging Poland 6-5.
