Although there are plenty of races left on the Cup Series schedule, NASCAR might officially have a ratings problem. Nielsen’s newest data shows the 2025 Daytona 500 drew a 5.3 rating, down 12% from the 6.0 rating in 2024. The decline continues a trend seen throughout the 2024 season, where average viewership dropped 8% compared to 2023. Whereas NASCAR points to strong attendance at events like the Bristol Night Race and increased engagement on digital platforms, television ratings remain a concern for advertisers and broadcast partners. Industry analysts suggest the drop may reflect shifting viewer habits, increased competition from streaming sports content, and the sport’s ongoing effort to attract younger demographics. NASCAR has responded with schedule changes for 2026, including the return of the In-Season Challenge and the addition of a Chicago street race, aiming to revitalize interest and boost mid-season excitement. Whether these changes will reverse the ratings decline remains to be seen as the 2026 season approaches.
