The Met Office had already warned that the 2025 summer was on track to be one of the hottest on record, with four heatwaves declared by mid-August. “The summer is already shaping up to be among the UK’s hottest on record,” a Met Office spokesperson stated. However, the intense heat was expected to be short-lived, as the remnants of Hurricane Erin began to affect the region, bringing heavy rain and strong winds.
