Samsung is preparing to integrate cloud-based AI transcription and enhanced storage management into its native Voice Recorder app as part of the upcoming One UI 9 software update. These features, currently in testing for the Galaxy S26 series, aim to improve transcription accuracy and streamline audio file organization for mobile users.
Cloud-Powered Transcription Accuracy
The most significant functional change coming to the Samsung Voice Recorder app is the introduction of "Cloud transcription." While current versions of the application rely exclusively on on-device processing for generating text from audio, the update allows users to upload recordings to Samsung’s servers. According to reports from SamMobile, this cloud-based approach is designed to provide higher levels of transcription accuracy compared to the existing local processing model.

This shift marks a departure from the current architecture, where cloud-based AI is restricted primarily to generating recording summaries.
Storage Management and File Conversion
To assist users in managing high volumes of audio data, Samsung is introducing a dedicated "Manage storage" interface within the app. This section mimics the utility found in the Samsung My Files app, providing automated categorization for files. Recordings will be sorted into specific groups, including:
- Large recordings: Files consuming significant internal storage.
- Short recordings: Quick clips or memos.
- Old recordings: Audio files that have not been accessed recently.
- Spam/scam calls: Automatically identified unwanted recordings.
In addition to storage tools, the update includes a file conversion feature. While the app defaults to the M4A format, users will gain the ability to export or save recordings in alternative formats, such as MP3 or WAV, enhancing compatibility with third-party audio software.
Interface and Usability Refinements
Samsung is implementing several UI adjustments to improve the user experience during playback and settings configuration:
- Waveform Animations: The recordings list will now display an animated waveform when a file is played directly from the menu, replacing the static progress bar used in previous versions.
- Settings Layout: The settings menu is receiving a visual cleanup. Samsung has moved the explanatory text for each feature from inside the toggle cards to a position underneath them, creating a more streamlined and readable interface.
Expected Rollout
These features are currently in the testing phase. Industry expectations suggest a public release will coincide with the broader rollout of One UI 9, which is anticipated to debut alongside Samsung’s next generation of foldable devices. Users should look for these updates within the next few weeks, likely arriving through a beta update for the Galaxy S26 series or a subsequent stable release.
