Metropolitan Police are investigating a sexual assault in South London after a woman in her 30s was attacked in the street. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning in the Peckham area. Detectives have released a description of the suspect and are currently reviewing local CCTV footage to identify the individual responsible.

The assault took place on Sunday, October 20, 2024, on Rye Lane in Peckham. According to the Metropolitan Police, the victim was walking alone when she was approached by a man. The suspect reportedly grabbed the woman by her hair, punched her, and attempted to kiss her during the unprovoked attack.
The victim managed to escape the scene and sought help shortly after the encounter. Authorities confirmed she did not require hospital treatment for life-threatening injuries, though she remains shaken by the event.
Ongoing Police Investigation and Appeals
Detective Sergeant Andrew Rourke, leading the investigation, has urged members of the public who may have been in the vicinity of Rye Lane between 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. to come forward.
"This was a frightening experience for the victim," Detective Sergeant Rourke stated in an official Metropolitan Police appeal. "We are working to identify the man responsible and are asking anyone with information, or anyone who may have captured the incident on a dashcam or mobile phone, to contact us immediately."
The police have not yet made any arrests in connection with the case. Officers are conducting door-to-door inquiries and reviewing footage from private and public security cameras along the busy thoroughfare.
