XPeng Stock Plummets on Weak Q2 Results Despite $900M Robotics Funding

XPeng shares dropped 6.7 percent to 9.74 euro after the electric vehicle manufacturer reported second-quarter financial results that missed Wall Street consensus estimates and revealed a nearly tripled net loss. According to financial figures released for the second quarter of 2026, revenue climbed 8 percent year-over-year to 19.74 Milliarden Yuan, falling short of analyst expectations, while the company’s net loss expanded to 1,34 Milliarden Yuan, or roughly 199,4 Millionen Dollar.

Core Financial Performance and Vehicle Margins

The core electric vehicle business faced mounting pressure during the quarter, highlighted by a contraction in vehicle margins. According to company reports, XPeng’s vehicle margin fell to 12.1 percent, down from 14.3 percent in the same period of the previous year. This metric tracks how efficiently the automaker scales its primary manufacturing operations while funneling capital into advanced artificial intelligence and new model development.

Research and development spending jumped 32.1 percent during the quarter, combining with shrinking operational efficiency in vehicle sales to heighten market scrutiny. For the third quarter, XPeng issued revenue guidance between 21,7 und 23,4 Milliarden Yuan, trailing analyst consensus projections of 25,88 Milliarden Yuan. The softer outlook aligns with projected third-quarter vehicle deliveries ranging from 115.000 bis 121.000 units.

Robotik-Tochter Dogotix sichert Kapital

Despite pressures on the core automotive business, XPeng’s robotics subsidiary, Dogotix, secured a 900 million dollar financing round from prominent institutional investors including Tencent, Alibaba, IDG Capital, and Gaorong Ventures. According to corporate filings, the funding values Dogotix at 6,3 Milliarden Dollar post-money, representing what financial analysts describe as a major single funding round within China’s embodied artificial intelligence sector.

Following the financing round, XPeng is slated to retain a majority stake of approximately 68.41 percent on a diluted basis. The robotics unit plans to launch commercial production of its humanoid robot, named IRON, by the end of 2026, targeting a monthly output exceeding 1.000 units ahead of a commercial rollout planned for early 2027. Dogotix reported widening net losses, moving from 87 million yuan in 2024 to 369 million yuan in 2025, alongside net liabilities of 447 million yuan as of March 31, 2026.

Marktreaktion und Ausschnitt der Geschäftszahlen

Equity markets weighed the disappointing automotive revenue and shrinking margins more heavily than the long-term potential of the robotics spinoff. XPeng stock sits down 46 percent for the year and roughly 51 percent lower over a twelve-month horizon, trading just 0.7 percent above its 52-week low. Technical indicators show the stock resting 34 percent beneath its 200-day moving average, accompanied by a Relative Strength Index reading of 35.1.

Bright spots in the financial report included the service sector, where revenue surged 93.9 percent, offering supplementary cash flow outside automobile sales. XPeng closed the quarter ending June 30 with 40,48 Milliarden Yuan in cash reserves, providing a financial cushion to fund ongoing research and development initiatives while navigating the current market downturn.
