Quoc Oai commune authorities inspected 61 food production and business establishments during the first eight months of 2026, issuing 90 million VND in fines to 15 violating facilities, according to a report from the local People’s Committee. The inspections covered 28 collective kitchens inside educational institutions across the area, where local officials reported zero food poisoning incidents.
School Meal Expansion and Vendor Selection for the 2026-2027 Academic Year
For the 2026–2027 academic year, Quoc Oai commune plans to operate 18 semi-boarding kitchen facilities serving approximately 9,046 students and children, achieving a 100% coverage rate for the program. To prepare, the commune People’s Committee received 44 applications from food, beverage, milk, and ready-to-eat meal suppliers. Following an evaluation process, local authorities selected 13 qualified vendors to supply public educational institutions.
Parent Concerns and Official Responses on Food Safety
During a preparatory meeting ahead of the new school term, parent representatives asked the government and school administrations to progressively standardize facilities and equipment across school-based boarding programs. According to local meeting records, some parents suggested exploring on-site meal preparation within schools to minimize transportation risks and enhance food safety quality, while also requesting emergency contingency plans to prevent service disruptions.
Responding to these stakeholder recommendations, Nguyen Truong Son, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Committee of Quoc Oai commune, emphasized that school meal safety directly impacts student health, development, and parental trust. Son stated that the local People’s Committee is stepping up inspections across all stages—from raw material selection and supply to processing, preservation, and meal preparation—while tightening accountability for food origins and vendor performance.
Local leaders also directed schools to strengthen oversight roles for staff, teachers, parents, and associated groups to promptly detect and report issues arising during boarding program operations. The pre-term meeting concluded with local authorities committing to review operational challenges and refine oversight to ensure safe, nutritious meals for all participating students.
