Indictment for Aiding Child Abuse Murder and Fraud
The biological father in the Uijeongbu motel newborn murder case has been formally indicted.
Prosecutors allege that the man collected money from his former girlfriend under the guise of funding an abortion. Investigators state he later encouraged her to kill the infant.
Mobile Phones and Bank Records Reveal Deception
The case began as an initial fraud investigation. It escalated into an active child abuse murder probe after prosecutors analyzed seized mobile phones, bank statements, and prison letters.
The Gongju Branch of the Daejeon District Prosecutors Office found that the suspect learned of the pregnancy from his 24-year-old ex-girlfriend, identified as B. He accepted money to arrange a medical procedure with no intention of helping.
When the mother missed the window for termination, the suspect allegedly told her he had hired a doctor. This doctor, he claimed, would kill the baby after birth and handle the post-delivery disposal.
Gambling and Motels Funded by Fraud
Prosecutors state that the suspect pocketed a total of 3,088,000 Korean won for supposed abortion and fake medical fees.
Instead of paying for medical care, he spent the funds on gambling and motel expenses.
The Mother’s Prison Sentence and Motel Crime
The mother, B, was previously tried and sentenced to six years in prison by a court of first instance on charges of child abuse murder. That sentence is currently being contested in an appeal.
Court records show that B gave birth alone in a motel room in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province. She left the newborn in a water-filled sink for roughly 12 minutes until the infant died.
B initially filed a fraud complaint against A after realizing she had been deceived. The Chungnam Provincial Police Agency transferred the case to prosecutors, who conducted extensive forensic and digital investigations to secure an arrest warrant for the father.
Prosecutors Pledge Strict Prosecution
“We tracked this beyond a simple fraud case to uncover the child abuse murder-aiding charges through persistent investigation,” a prosecution official stated.
The official emphasized that the state intends to maintain prosecution to secure a sentence matching the severity of the crime.
