Stadium Modifications and Video Board Removal
According to club documentation released in late January, active construction on the grounds continues unabated. The most significant structural task currently underway involves dismantling the massive giant screen formerly positioned above the Sívori stand, a process that has required the complete removal of its LED panels and internal framework over recent weeks. Once the supporting pilotes are fully extracted, construction crews will accelerate progress on the fifth tier of the grandstands and the roof structure. Club officials noted that while matchday stats, lineups, and replays currently utilize the 360-degree ribbon boards, future plans include installing two wide-format screens in both headers to replace the dismantled unit.
Engineering Specifications and Roof Structure
The monumental overhaul requires heavy engineering feats, including the excavation of 17,000 cubic meters of earth—reaching depths between 16 and 27 meters—alongside the foundation of 1,684 tons of steel and 17,230 tons of concrete. These materials form the structural base for 100 V-shaped perimeter columns designed to support the overarching roof. According to club specifications, the roof will feature a translucent membrane to allow adequate sunlight for the hybrid turf, an acoustic metal lining to improve matchday sound quality while muffling external noise, and a skywalk viewing deck modeled after similar high-altitude fan experiences popularized by stadiums like Tottenham Hotspur’s home ground.
Capacity Expansion and Financial Impact
Extending the seating coverage toward the field edges enables the addition of the fifth tier, which will consist of 13 rows adding 16 mil new seats. According to River Plate statements, these spaces will be integrated without additional surcharges for club members.
